What are We Reading? April 2019 Edition

Being an author, I naturally love reading. Fortunately, my husband and kiddos are avid readers as well. Here is what we are into this month:

This month, the kiddos are both obsessed with “Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you see?” by Bill Martin Jr. I read each response in an animal voice. My toddler and I make the corresponding animal sounds for each page. My infant sits still on his bottom and turns the pages. Then, the toddler blows my mind by naming off all of the animals and colors as recounted at the end of the book. So many great preschool skills can be unlocked by creatively reading this book! iu

This month, I have been reading a plethora of articles about healthy skin care regimes and managing oily skin. I have been on a skin care journey since giving up my favorite carcinogen almost four years ago. Lately, though, nothing has been working at managing my nursing mama skin (think of it as part menopausal and part pregnancy skin). Keep this project in your prayers!

My husband has been stealing every possible moment to read Doctrine and Race: African American Evangelicals and Fundamentalism between the Wars by Mary Beth Swetnam Mathews. He recommends it due to her primary source citations and the overall narrative about how conservative the African American church community used to be. However, he adds the caveat that she, operating as secular historian, often lacks the biblical understanding to tackle the theological issues at play.
